Now I don’t want to jinx anything, but ever since my project started, the Rubberducks have been on a hot streak. I shouldn’t even be talking about the results on the field because that is not what the business side is about, but if the Guardians need any help, I am available. To end the week, I created my own promotional calendar. This took a lot longer than expected. I started copying and pasting every promotion from this year into a document. I then highlighted the ones I liked and would include in mine. It was about 25. 45 more to go. I then did a lot of research on what other teams were doing. I found some good articles online with some past promotions from years ago. Most of them were very creative and were themed around the team names and locations. This prompted me to research what Akron is known for. I learned about the Akron Goodyear Wingfoots, a pro basketball team started in 1918. I also learned about the Soap Box Derby World Championship, held in Akron every year. I made sure to include those themes in my calendar. I did some brainstorming of events that happen over the summer and tried to match them up with a game, so there is Jackie Robinson day, Mother’s Day, the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, and even a Met Gala game. It takes a lot of coordination, and I am still a few ideas short. I also need to come up with somewhat creative names for the nights. I put everything in a calendar with next year’s game dates modeled after the ones for this season. I have been strategically placing promotions on certain days, with the more popular ones on the weekend. I also scheduled some of the more popular and fun ones towards the warmer months. I looked at what days the promotions were on this year to get a better idea for mine. I am excited for a much more interactive week since the team will be back in town.
Lol. You should market yourself as the lucky intern. Do you think that they will end up using any of your promotion ideas? How much time goes into planning each one? It definitely feels like a full-time job to keep them all straight and make them feel relevant and interesting.
